Interrenal-Chromaffin Tissue Ratio in the Adrenal Gland of Kuttanad Ducks (Anas Platyrhynchos Domesticus) During Post Hatch Development

چکیده
The interrenalchromaffin tissue ratio (IC ratio) in the adrenal gland of Kuttanad ducks was studied during post hatch development in 78 female birds of 13 age groups from day-old to 24 weeks of age at fortnightly intervals. The measurement was read out from the pictures by the use of “ImageJ software”. The proportion of interrenal tissue in the whole gland was least at sixth week of age (1.15:1). However, the highest percentage of interrenal tissue in all the three zones (subcapsular, inner and central zones) was noticed at 18 weeks of age. Interrenal-chromaffin tissue ratio in the whole gland revealed that the interrenal tissue predominated the chromaffin tissue throughout the post hatch period in Kuttanad ducks. The functional significance of higher proportion of cortex is not fully understood, but one possible explanation could be the increased need to regulate water and electrolyte balance in ducks. The highest IC ratio of 2:1 was attained in 18 weeks-old birds when all the birds started laying eggs. This might be due to the fact that when the bird is exposed to stress (egg laying), the adrenal glands release corticoster one and catecholamines into the blood, which help the bird to adapt to new conditions.

Epithelial Diversification of Thyroid Gland in Kuttanad Duck (Anas platyrhynchos domesticus) - A Postnatal Study
The study was conducted on 104 female Kuttanad ducks from day-old to 24 weeks of age and the birds were selected randomly from a single hatch for the study. The thyroid glands were collected from eight birds in each group at fortnightly intervals. After recording the gross features, the material was fixed using different fixatives and then processed for histological studies. The paired thyroid ...

An experiment was conducted to assess the optimum nutrient requirement and ideal mating ratios for Alabio ducks for production of fertile eggs and hatchability under rural feeding management. A total of 135 forty weeks old females and 27 males were used in the study. They were fed on low (17.5%), medium (19.5%) and high (21.5%) crude protein (CP) in diets containing approximately 3050 kcal of m...

Here, we report the complete genome sequence of a virulent Newcastle disease virus (vNDV) strain, duck/Pakistan/Lahore/AW-123/2015, isolated from apparently healthy laying ducks (Anas platyrhynchos domesticus) from the province of Punjab, Pakistan. The virus has a genome length of 15,192 nucleotides and is classified as member of subgenotype VIIi, class II.

The processes of ossification sequences are poorly investigated for birds in general, even for domestic and experimental species and when it comes to the waterfowl it is almost negligible. Such sequences constitute a rich source of data on character evolution, and may even provide phylogenetic information. A pre-hatch developmental study on ossification sequences of axial and appendicular skele...

BACKGROUND While the endothelium-organ interaction is critical for regulating cellular behaviors during development and disease, the role of blood flow in these processes is only partially understood. The dorsal aorta performs paracrine functions for the timely migration and differentiation of the sympatho-adrenal system. However, it is unclear how the adrenal cortex and medulla achieve and mai...
